Aha! So now we have discovered the ideal weapon for despatching battle-armoured
idiots - captapults! Forward the XXIV Legion! The Romans have conquered the
RC...

Seriously, though, I agree with your kinetic energy discussion points. What we
do (working with Megatraveller) is to say if you _hit_ but don't penetrate with
a "field" weapon (a rough designation of anything doing 6D or more or that goes
off bang), I apply 1 point per die as kinetic damage regardless. Also note that
we use a tripled hit points and On Target location system, as found in White
Dwarf many moons ago... You might find a 10D grenade which doesn't penetrate
killing your weaker characters. Then again, you might _want_ that!

Laser gunners will, I would expect, act much like pilots in an aircraft
set on auto-pilot when the turrets are operating in a linked battery
situation. There are more controls in the turret than just the
trigger. They may be monitoring and correcting powerflow to their
weapon, ensuring proper synchronization with the master system, and
most importantly, maintaining their posts in case the master control
suddenly shuts down (damage or malfunction) or in case a manual override
is needed to deal with another local threat.

Gentlesophonts:

Alvin Plummer <plummera@hubble.sheridanc.on.ca> asks:

> what happened to the *Shall Not Perish* Regency sourcebook for TML?

Well, the temporary demise of TML was a severe blow. Possibly, my
own absence from the 'Net was something of a factor. Nevertheless,
everything that was done for *Shall Not Perish* (tm) presumably is
still out there in the old TML archives.

I also have "heard" that GDW has moved up the release of its own
Regency Sourcebook from "something in two years" to a possible
December, 1994 release. I don't have any confirmation of that
rumor but I suspect if it's true that might be a further disincentive
for folks to participate in our own TML Regency Sourcebook. Also,
the ever-increasing insistence on "ownership" of Traveller material
(I thought copyrights protect *words*, not *ideas*?) also might
discourage some folks from participating.

IMHO, there's no reason we can't continue *Shall Not Perish* here
on the new TML. Unless, of course, that violates the licensing
agreement of these fine folks who have agreed to provide us
with this resurrected forum.

Happy Travelling,
